Your Career is like a Box of Chocolates

"Life is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're gonna get," quoted by Tom Hanks in the 1994 film, Forrest Gump is more than just a movie quote. It offers a different perspective on life.

In 2006, I graduated from the University of South Florida with a major in Business Administration and concentrations in Finance and Marketing.  I knew shortly after I graduated from college that I did not want to work in finance and only wanted to use my marketing knowledge for my personal brand. Since then, I've worked in various job roles and industries; none of which correlated with my concentrated fields of study in college. I was fine with that because I enjoyed learning new skills and switching industries to adapt to my employer's system of operations and organizational culture.

I didn't have a clear road map and/or plan for my career at the age of 21. Instead of panicking, I went with the flow, followed my heart's desires and did what I knew best which was hustle. I worked and worked until I figured out what my career path should lead toward. Everything became simpler for me once I realized what my purpose was in life through my career.

Sometimes, you have to stop planning and go with the flow with whatever life brings. Your career is just like a box of chocolates; you never know what you're going to get out of it.
