Why Aren't You Smiling?
"Nothing really is. Everything really isn't." These words are associated with Jhene Aiko's song "W.A.Y.S." and are tattooed on my arms. Since the first day I heard it, I received chills. Why? This one phrase changed my perspective about life. It taught me to not focus on the obstacles in my life but instead, when there is pressure, find a reason to smile.
When you're in the workplace, there can be a lot of pressure from your boss and/or co-worker with their needs and demands. However, the best way to combat any type of pressure that is making it hard for you to work is to realize that at the end of the day, it doesn't matter. So why get worked up and bothered about a temporary issue when you don't have to?
I received the tattoo a year before I quit my last job in corporate America. It was then that I noticed that my newfound courage through those lyrical words were used to propel me in quitting my job and soon after, focusing on my business 100% of the time.
What's holding back your smile in the workplace?
